2022, for the December opening program

Dreamhome: Stories of Art and Shelter formed part of the opening program for the Art Gallery’s new North Building, which opened on 3 December 2022. The building is now known as Naala Badu.
The project photographs feature Samara Golden’s Guts (2022), exhibited in Dreamhome. Repeated reflections extend the artwork through the surrounding space, drawing attention to the relationship between the display, the mirrors and the people viewing it.
Majestic Glass’s contribution focused on the exhibition’s mirror installation. The finished photographs show why the arrangement of the panels mattered: the reflection continues across multiple surfaces, making the junctions part of the visual experience.
The mirrors were measured individually to suit the installation. In an environment built around repeated reflections, the relationship between neighbouring panels is as important as the position of each panel on its own.
The work required careful alignment where mirrors met, particularly around corners. A small change at a junction can become conspicuous in a repeated reflection, so the panel layout needed to work as a connected whole.
Installing the ceiling mirrors added a handling and positioning challenge. The published project account describes the care required to bring these panels into alignment with the surrounding installation before the North Building’s opening.

Explore the completed mirror installation from the entrance, across the mirrored walls and looking upward through the reflections. The photographs show the panel junctions, the artwork and the way visitors appear within the mirrored space. Select an image to view it at a larger size.
